Real Champion Thoughts…
Unquestionably the best player in the playoffs. Unquestionably unstoppable. Unquestionably talented. Unquestionably the MVP. So when Dwyane Wade was asked about his feelings surrounding the Miami Heat’s first world championship, his response was also beyond question. It could’ve been thanks to teammates or coaches… It could’ve been a list of personal accomplishments the journey had brought… but it wasn’t. Dwyane’s focus was elsewhere. Unquestionably elsewhere. He gave God all the credit for victory, for skill, and for strength. He even made public his conviction that he was “praising” in the midst of celebration. He spoke of the joy he receives from being husband and father… and how the joy of being a world champion is secondary to that. Wow. Thank you, Dwyane. In a world that sees it normal and necessary to cut off the microphone when a young valedictorian offers recognition to the Almighty, we need prolific personalities (ones that NO ONE would silence) to show where real strength, real skill, and real victory comes from. Thank-you for setting that example. It thrills me to think of young people imitating your moves and your heart… Thanks for living out the words of the Savior, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33 Perhaps seeing your convictions so public will give the rest of us courage to make ours equally known… and return this country to a focus of victory, skill, and strength.
