In the Heat… In the Breeze…

I’m in the wrong part of the world.  Period.  I’m sitting in my living room with my family screaming at the hockey playoffs, and it’s 90 degrees outside!!  It should be four feet deep in snow outside, but no…. it has to be hot enough to barbeque without coals.

Is anyone else like me around these parts?  It's too hot!  Too bright!  This time of year I live for sunglasses, iced tea, and air conditioning.

Often times, we view Christ purely from a John 8:12 perspective… “I am the light of the world…”  We see the sun, the heat, and we see a demonstration of the power and brilliance of a powerful Savior.  However, for people like me, it is important also to realize that the peace and tranquility that comes from a ceiling fan or a good AC unit is the very same thing.  David referred to time with God as “resting in the shadow of Your wing”  He viewed the Father as a source of peace, not just power… as a haven, not just heat.  He’s the cool breeze that brings relief just as readily as He’s the sunlight that powers the summer heat.

We are a people in need of both demonstrations from Him… and He gives them.  Take a moment today to bask in the brilliance of His sunshine, and then retreat to a cool place of solitude and find Him there as well… what a God we serve!
