Please Fix My Burger…

What happens when the local fast-food place doesn’t provide us with exactly what we want?  You know what I mean… you ordered the chicken sandwich and you get a bacon-cheeseburger.  What happens next?  Most of us stride right back up to the counter, point out the error, and wait impatiently for the proper order.  For some reason, my grandmother was never like that.  She would simply overlook the error and eat whatever was given her (even if she hated it!).  I recall her saying, “It’ll be fine...everyone makes mistakes.”  I used to think she was far too nice, I mean, everyone has the right to get what they ordered, don’t they?  The longer I’ve lived, the more I’ve come to understand that life is far better lived like grandma than like me.  Perhaps you find yourself treating life (and even God) like a fast-food place that tends to get your order wrong.  Life very rarely hands us exactly what we “ordered”, does it?  So, most of us find ourselves before God in heaven, asking for (or even worse, demanding) what we want.  After all, it works in the restaurant, doesn’t it?  Hmmm… it doesn’t work with God, does it?  Life is not as much about what happens to us… it’s more about how we handle the things that happen to us.  May God grant us the courage to cease our demanding and view our lives more like a great adventure, where we don’t know exactly what dangers or beautiful sights lay just ahead… but our Guide knows exactly, and with His help, there is simply no such thing as an insurmountable obstacle!  How fortunate are we! “Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.” (John 12:26)
