Relativism

Pick up the newspaper.  Turn on CNN.  Tune in to the radio.  Isn’t our world full of bizarre and even ugly troubles?  Look at the dominant headlines… Same-sex Marriage Debate Rages!  Man Sues McDonalds Because of Obesity!  Fraud Definition Disagreement Paves Way for Overturning Court Decisions!  Supreme Court Overrules Local Ruling!  What is going on? Whatever happened to right and wrong? …Good and Evil?  Somehow the definition of these terms has been blurred.  Satan has done his work well.  At the International Bureau of Weights and Measures they hold a very special piece of Platinum-Irridium.  It is kept at a certain temperature, and is well protected.  Why?  Simple.  It is the worldwide standard for what we know as a kilogram.  It is the basis, the rule, the final authority for all measurement of mass on the planet.  You or I cannot simply decide that a kilogram will now be the weight of our cat, our spare tire, or a box of chocolates.  There is a standard.  If the standard did not exist, or the world ceased to recognize it as the standard, how would we know that we are accurately measuring mass?  We wouldn’t.  That very thing has happened to us in society.  We decided that truth should only apply to individuals, and that right and wrong are decided on different criteria for different situations.  What the Justice department decides is right today may be overturned by a higher court, or decided later that it was, indeed, wrong.  The standard for all right and wrong is the Will of God in heaven.  We have forgotten to recognize that.  His imparted Will to us (The Bible) is the tangible record of that standard.  Somehow we must return to a mindset and conviction that the Bible is involved in ALL aspects of life and society.  Morality.  Ethics.  Legality.  All of these have value and impact when, and only when, they have the Bible as their standard and source.  Jesus let us know implicitly in Matthew 5:17 when He stated, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law and the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.”  What things can you do to put the standard back in our society in a real way?  How can you recognize the God and His Word as the source of right, wrong, good, and evil?  Now more than ever, what we need is look to, rely on, and obey Jesus!
