Get Ready…

Our Lord knew that He would need men to carry on the news of the gospel, as He would soon leave this earth and return to the glory of heaven.  Notice what Luke writes about the night before Jesus selects these twelve key individuals.

“One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.  When morning came, he called His disciples to Him and chose twelve of them, whom He also designated apostles.” (Luke 6:12-13)

Most of the time we spend the night sleeping…. Sometimes we spend it working, and occasionally even spend it worrying.  But praying?  Not usually.  Our Savior knew the importance of the task before Him, and poured His energy and consciousness in seeking the aid and guidance of His Father.  Do we?  All of us have a job to do.  There are people to touch, a community to impact, families to care for, Christians to love, and lost to save.  Each of us have gifts and abilities given to us by God to accomplish our job.  How should we prepare?  When in doubt, follow the example of Jesus (pretty sound advice!)  More and more, I see the value in regular, intense, and purposeful time spent with God and His Word.  Jesus did it, needed it, and prioritized it… how much more should we?
